“The People’s Park” event at Effigy Mounds National Monument on July 6 celebrated natural ecosystems, the history of Iowa and the community Effigy Mounds brings together.
The event included live music, family-friendly activities and educational resources.
The Teddy Bear Parade has been an integral part of Garnavillo’s Fourth of July festivities—traditionally paired with the ice cream social the evening of July 3. Kids had a blanket piled with bears to choose from for this year’s Teddy Bear Parade. Over 100 youth participate annually.
Shirley Schmelzer and Bill Robinson led the Teddy Bear Parade through and around the city park. For Schmelzer, “it’s always wonderful to see so many people. You renew old acquaintances and make new ones."

Karen Ann Engelhardt, 85, of Manchester, formerly of St. Olaf, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at the Good Neighbor Society in Manchester. She was born Aug. 1, 1939, in St. Olaf, to Myron and Nettie (Larson) Lindroth.
