A Guttenberg man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after his vehicle was partially submerged in Miners Creek last week. 

According to a press release, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office received a report at approximately 7:09 p.m. on April 3 that a vehicle was partially submerged in Miners Creek, along U.S. Highway 52, south of Guttenberg.

Course aims to generate youth interest in officiating

A class offered at Clayton Ridge High School last semester aimed to generate youth interest in officiating.

Ten students, ranging from sophomores to seniors, took the elective course, which was based on a curriculum by Ref Reps, a digital platform that helps schools and organizations teach officiating. The course was taught by Clayton Ridge social studies and physical education teacher Kyle Sperfslage.

James Michael Kann, 78, of Garnavillo, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by his family.

Visitation was Sunday, March 29, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo, and before services at the church.

Funeral services were Monday, March 30, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Paul Kwaku Ameyaw, and Deacon Jim Pfaffy.

Donald E. Niosi

Donald Emil Niosi, 82, passed away on March 4, 2026, in Punta Gorda, Fla. Born on July 16, 1943, in Rockville Centre, N.Y., he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life was marked by devotion to his family.

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he pursued a career in Engineering. Donald worked with various companies, notably contributing to the design of John Deere mowers for golf courses, landscape equipment and tractors. He earned his name on multiple patents. He spent most of his career at RFA Engineering in Minneapolis, Minn.

From Yellowstone to Guttenberg, the story of the Wolter Grotto

Tucked away into the park near Guttenberg’s fish hatchery stands one of the town’s most unusual historical features, a small stone grotto that has puzzled and intrigued residents for nearly a century.

The story of the Wolter Grotto was already making news in town by the spring of 1935. In its May 2, 1935 issue, The Guttenberg Press reported on the unique stone memorial being constructed in Ingleside Park by local resident and brewer Rudolph Wolter.
