Closing out the regular season last week with a pair of road games, the Seneca Royals boys basketball team was looking to keep their winning streak going heading into the postseason this week.
First up for Seneca was a trip to Muscoda last Monday, Feb. 23 where the Royals handed the host Chieftains a 71-62 defeat.
Gage Wall paced Seneca with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field. He was followed by Kaden Roberts with 16 points (including 5-of-8 from beyond the three-point line), Hunter Hagensick with 14 points, Jackson Konichek with nine points (and a team-high 15 rebounds), Carson Sime with eight points and Jaxx Wall with two points.
The Royals concluded their regular season and conference schedules three nights later on Thursday, Feb. 26 when they traveled to Cazenovia to take on the Weston Silver Eagles and left with a decisive 84-61 victory.
The Seneca boys once again shot extremely well, going 32-of-65 for 49 percent from the field as a team. The team had four players reach double figures in scoring, with Konichek scoring 24 points on 11-of-12 shooting for 92 percent to lead the team. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the win.
He was followed by G. Wall with 18 points (and a near quadruple-double with eight assists, seven rebounds and five steals), Hagensick with 13 points, Roberts with 12 points, J. Wall with seven points, Basil Hall with five points, Owen George with three points and Dakota Owens with two points.
The win improved the Royals record to 13-10 overall and 8-6 in the Ridge & Valley Conference, which tied Ithaca for fourth place.
The Royals hosted those same will Ithaca Bulldogs in a regional quarterfinal game this past Tuesday night with the winner moving on to face the winner of the North Crawford vs. Weston game in the regional semifinal game this Friday, Mar. 06 at 7:00 p.m.
