The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets boys basketball team traveled to La Farge last Monday, Feb. 20 looking to snap a five-game losing streak as well as getting some revenge on the host Wildcats for a 60-44 loss the Hornets suffered at home back in the middle of January.

For a game in which neither team shot particularly well (Wauzeka-Steuben 16-of-45 for 36 percent and La Farge/Youth Initiative 14-of-44 for 32 percent), it was the visiting Hornets who came away with the low scoring 43-40 victory.

The Hornets were led in scoring by Cooper Lomas with 15 points (as well as a team-high 16 rebounds). He was followed by Theo Millin with nine points, Julius Cooley with seven points, Josh Martin with six points, Clint Mitchell with four points and Bentley Dums with two points.

Wauzeka-Steuben wrapped up both the regular season and conference play last Thursday, Feb. 26 when they traveled to Soldiers Grove to take on the North Crawford Trojans.

North Crawford handed the Hornets a 77-42 defeat as Wauzeka-Steuben dropped to 5-18 overall with the loss and 3-11 in the Ridge & Valley Conference. The Hornets finished sixth in the final league standings.

Lomas led the Hornets offense with 20 points and was once again the team’s leading rebounder with 14 rebounds. He was followed in the scoring tally by Millin with 10 points, Martin with five points, Dums and Mitchell with three points each and junior Garrison Becwar with one point.

The Hornets began postseason play this past Tuesday night when they traveled to no. 2 seed and conference champion Kickapoo.
