Looking to keep the momentum going after a trio of wins, the Seneca Royals boys basketball team swept a pair of games last week to extend their winning streak to five in a row.
First up for the Royals was a trek to La Farge last Tuesday, Feb. 17 and they came back with a 71-52 win. Senior Jackson Konichek led the Royals in scoring with a game-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds. He was followed in scoring by fellow seniors Gage Wall with 19 points (and a team-high six rebounds) and Hunter Hagensick (16 points).
Also getting into the scoring log for Seneca was senior Kaden Roberts (eight points), junior Owen George (three points) and senior Carson Sime (two points).
Seneca was back at home three nights later looking to get revenge on Ithaca after a tough, two-point loss at Ithaca last month. In another hard fought game, it was the Royals coming out on top this time 62-52. Wall paced the Royals offense with 20 points. along with his team-high seven assists. Hagensick added 17 points while Konichek add 16 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring tally was Roberts with six points and Sime with three points.
The win improved the Royals record to 11-10 overall and 7-6 in the Ridge & Valley Conference.
Seneca traveled to Riverdale this past Monday night before returning home this Friday night for the regular season finale against Weston.
The Royals received the eighth seed in their sectional grouping and will face ninth seed Ithaca in a regional quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Mar. 3 with the winner taking on the winner between no. 1 seed North Crawford and 16th seed Weston in the regional semifinal round on Fri., Mar. 6.
