Central/Ed-Co senior wrestler Braxton Bormann concluded a memorable season—and career—at the Iowa High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championship in Des Moines last week.
A rare four-time state qualifier, Bormann entered the tournament seeded 13th at 150 pounds in Class 1A. He opened with a 12-10 victory over 20 seed Nathan Roemer of Mount Ayr thanks to a last second takedown.
A second round pin at the hands of Woodbury Central’s Lincoln Linden, the eventual fifth-place finisher, bumped Bormann to the backside of the bracket. There, he secured a second period fall over Aidan Hellman of Don Bosco to advance to day two of the tournament.
Bormann’s run ended in consolation round three, where he lost an 8-4 decision against fifth-seeded Tyrone Parrow from Jesup.
