Two Central/Ed-Co wrestlers placed at the Upper Iowa Conference Tournament, held Jan. 31 at New Hampton.
George Reimer was fifth at 132 pounds, after going 2-2 on the day. Highlights included a technical fall over Maddox Hanson of MFL MarMac in consolation round three, then a 7-0 victory over South Winneshiek’s Matthew Donovan in the fifth-place match.
Colton Hoisington also placed fifth at 165 pounds. Like Reimer, he scored a victory in consolation round three—a fall over Clayton Ridge’s Kai Brandt. A loss in the consolation semifinals dropped him to the fifth-place match, but Hoisington came out on top due to a medical forfeit by Brennen Pater of Crestwood.
Kinnick Robbins finished the day 1-2, including a fall over Louis Andera of South Winn, but did not place at 144 pounds. Eddie DeShaw (126), Nolan Gaul (138), Isaiah Burns (157) and Ben Pierschbacher (285) were 0-2 in their matches and did not place in their respective weight classes.
Central/Ed-Co earned 23.5 points, placing 10th of 12 teams.
The tournament followed a pair of duals for the team at a Jan. 29 home meet.
Central/Ed-Co lost the first dual 66-12 to North Linn. A Braxton Bormann fall at 150 pounds and forfeit win for Pierschbacher at heavyweight accounted for the team’s points. Tallen Mormann (120), DeShaw, Robbins, Gaul, Eli Bailey (144), Burns, Hoisington and Kayden Williams (215) were all pinned in their matches. The Lynx also picked up points on forfeits at 113, 175 and 190 pounds. There was a double forfeit at 106.
The second dual resulted in a 59-18 loss to Anamosa. The Blue Raiders benefitted from forfeits at 106, 113 and 175 pounds, in addition to falls over Mormann, DeShaw, Robbins, Bailey, Williams and Pierschbacher. Burns lost by technical fall.
Bormann and Hoisington earned falls for Central/Ed-Co, while Gaul secured a victory by forfeit.
More duals are on tap this week. Central/Ed-Co will host MFL MarMac, Bellevue, Hudson and Wahlert Catholic in Edgewood on Feb. 3. It’s the final meet before districts on Feb. 14.
